After adding your phone number and verifying your business, the next step to increase your daily messaging limit to 1,000 messages per day is to get your display name approved by WhatsApp.
When you add your phone number along with a display name during the API setup, WhatsApp automatically reviews it. The review process can take up to 24 hours, after which your display name will either be approved or rejected.
You can view the status of your display name on the Phone Numbers page in WhatsApp Manager.

If your display name follows the Display Name Guidelines, it should be approved within a day, and your messaging limit will automatically increase to 1,000 messages per day.
If the display name does not meet the guidelines, it may be rejected, and you will need to submit a new name for review.
To re-submit your display name for review, click the Edit icon next to the current Display Name, enter a new name following the guidelines below, and submit the form. You can learn more about changing your Display Name here.
Guidelines for Display Name Approval
Below is a summary of WhatsApp’s Display Name Approval Guidelines. Ensure you follow these guidelines to get your display name approved.
1. Display names must comply with WhatsApp’s Commerce and Business Policies.
2. If your company has multiple divisions with separate WhatsApp Business accounts, only those that adhere to WhatsApp’s Commerce Policy are eligible for a WhatsApp Business account.
3. Display names should clearly represent the business, its services, products, departments, or be associated with a test or demo account.
4. Display names must not include a full individual’s name, generic terms, geographic locations, slogans, or lengthy descriptions.
5. Organizations affiliated with the government must obtain approval from the WhatsApp team for their display names.
6. Display names must align with external branding, including the company’s website or marketing materials. Additional emojis, symbols, or words should only be included if they specify a country, region, department, function, or relate to a test or demo account.
7. Display names must accurately represent the business and should be mentioned on the company’s website or in external media.
8. If the connection between a company and a brand is not clear, it must be specified using the format “by [Company Name]”.
9. If the display name represents a business collaborating with the company (such as an agency, distributor, partner, or parent company), the relationship must be clearly stated and visible on both parties’ websites.
10. If a company wishes to use its subsidiary’s display name, it must provide links to both websites confirming the subsidiary relationship.
Display Name and Green Tick Verification Process
Even after the display name is approved, end users will still see your phone number in the message list and when they open a message—unless they have saved your number in their contacts. The display name will only be visible on your profile page when viewed from the WhatsApp app.
If you want to show your display name on the message list and during chat, you’ll need to first get your display name approved (by following the instructions mentioned above) and then get your phone number green tick verified.
